How to Measure Trip Hazard
For each trip hazard we will need the height of the hazard and the total width of the hazard. Photos do help us and can be added, but are not required. Accurate measurements help us provide you with accurate estimates. A few minutes can help eliminate surprises later.

A. Any lift or trip hazard 1/4 inch or higher is considered by the ADA to be out of compliance.
Isn’t it better just to remove and replace the sidewalk instead of grinding it?
A. In some instances it can be where the trip hazards are very large, but it is usually much more economical to grind away the high area especially if there are multiple trip hazards throughout a property.
How tall can a trip hazards be before it is considered uneconomical to grind?
A. Typically 2.5″-3″ high is considered less economical to grind, but it depends on what other trip hazards are on your property.
How long does the grinding take?
A. It really depends on the height and length of the grind but small grinds can take as little as 10mins, while larger ones can take an hour or longer.
How long before the area can be open to pedestrian traffic?
Immediately after the grind is complete it is available for pedestrian traffic. Grinding is the only trip hazard solution that can boast this fast of a turn around.
I’ve seen ground concrete on the sidewalk before and it looks very rough and ugly.
The system we have developed leaves and smooth and attractive surface. Our goal is to leave a surface that you quickly forget was even and trip hazard at all.
Will the area that is ground be a different color?
A. Concrete grinding is the least noticeable method of trip hazards removal. since the original concrete is still in place, the ground area will typically eventually blend much better with the existing sidewalk.
I think I can do this myself or my maintenance person can do it.
A. You can but it is not as easy, it will make a dusty mess, and it will take a lot longer than you think. We have taken a long time, a lot of trial and error, and many custom built tools to be able to do the job we do.
